SVOLT Launches 10-Minute Short Blade Fast-Charging Battery Amid Challenges in Cylindrical Cell Production

Since 2024, ultra-fast charging batteries have become a technological battleground for EV battery companies. Several EV battery and OEM manufacturers have introduced square, pouch, and cylindrical cells capable of charging to 80% State of Charge (SOC) in 10-15 minutes or providing 400-500 kilometers of range with a 5-minute charge. Fast charging has become a shared pursuit among battery companies and automotive manufacturers.

On July 4th, SVOLT unveils a lineup of highly competitive new Short Blade products at its Global Partners Summit. For the electric vehicle market, SVOLT has introduced industry-leading 5C lithium iron phosphate short blade cells, reducing the charging time from 10% to 80% to just 10 minutes. SVOLT has also launched 6C ultra-fast charging NCM cells, meeting high-range and fast-charging demands with a 5-minute charge extending range up to 500-600 kilometers. For the PHEV market, SVOLT has launched the industry's first 4C hybrid short blade cell, the "800V PHEV  Dragon Armor NCM Battery." With this introduction, SVOLT's fast-charging products now cover a range from 2.2C to 6C, catering comprehensively to various passenger vehicle models with different powertrain configurations such as PHEVs and EVs.

4C PHEV Dragon Armor Battery: Pioneering the Era of PHEV Ultra-Fast Charging

Following last year's release of the second-generation PHEV-specific short blade cells, SVOLT has now introduced the industry's first Short Blade NCM battery of thermal electric separation, named "800V PHEV Dragon Armor NCM Battery."

As the name suggests, the 800V PHEV Dragon Armor NCM Battery is designed for 800V platform architecture, supporting ultra-fast charging with a maximum charging rate of up to 4C. It incorporates the thermal electric separation technology of Dragon Armor Battery, enhancing safety. With the combination of 800V and 4C fast-charging technology, it stands as the fastest charging PHEV product in the industry. This revolutionary battery product designed specifically for the next generation of hybrid vehicles will commence production in July 2025.

In the current market, PHEV models have become a key driver in increasing the penetration rate of new energy vehicles. SVOLT's Short Blade products are inherently suitable for the internal structure of PHEV models, allowing for effective avoidance of exhaust pipes and achieving high integration and high energy density.

The  800V PHEV Dragon Armor NCM Battery stands out with its superior performance. Compared to traditional PHEV battery packs, it achieves a 20% increase in volume utilization and boasts an energy density of 250Wh/kg. This allows PHEV models to choose from 55-70 kWh of electrical capacity, providing a maximum pure electric range of 300 to 400 kilometers. This range already matches that of many pure electric vehicles.

More importantly, this product also achieves a 5% reduction in unit costs, providing a competitive advantage in terms of pricing.

5C, 6C Ultra-Fast Charging Batteries Spark Pure Electric Vehicle Market

SVOLT also releases two new ultra-fast charging batteries for the EV market: Short Blade Lithium Iron Phosphate and Short Blade NCM battery, meeting automotive manufacturers' urgent need to enhance charging speeds.

Firstly, SVOLT introduces a 5C ultra-fast charging battery based on the lithium iron phosphate system. This product can recharge from 10% to 80% in just 10 minutes. It also boasts a cycle life exceeding 3500 cycles and is set to enter mass production by December this year.

The other product is a 6C ultra-fast charging battery based on the NCM system. The 6C capability has become a crucial battleground for battery companies, and SVOLT's 6C ultra-fast charging battery can achieve peak power of 6C from 10% to 80% SOC, enabling a charge time of 5 minutes and a range of 500 to 600 kilometers. This means it can meet long-distance travel needs in the time it takes to enjoy a cup of coffee. In addition, this product features a total pack capacity ranging from 100-120 kWh, providing a maximum range of over 1000 kilometers.

Deepening Expertise in Stacking Technology and Preparing for Solid-State Batteries

At the summit, SVOLT also unveils a semi-solid-state NCM battery product with an energy density of 266 Wh/kg. This marks SVOLT's first product integrating production readiness, cost, and application scenario definitions. It is primarily intended for high-capacity vehicle models with irregularly shaped ba ttery packs. Compared to liquid high-nickel batteries, the semi-solid-state NCM battery offers double the thermal endurance when triggered into thermal runaway. It reduces the peak temperature by 200 degrees Celsius post-runaway, demonstrating improved thermal stability and a reduced risk of thermal diffusion to adjacent cells.

When discussing stacking technology, SVOLT's "Fly Stacking" technology currently achieves a stacking speed of 0.125 seconds per sheet. It has already been massively deployed in production at bases in Yancheng, Shangrao, and Chengdu, significantly enhancing production efficiency. The investment per GWh for equipment using Fly Stacking technology is now lower than that for winding processes.

The continuous breakthroughs in Flying Stacking technology align with the ongoing cost reduction competition in the battery industry. Combined with SVOLT's strategy of producing large single items, scaling up production strengthens economies of scale, leading to continual improvements in product consistency and yield rates.

At this summit, SVOLT comprehensively showcases its latest product lineup and the integrated advantages brought by its ongoing focus on Short Blade Stacking technology. They also announced several leading initiatives, fostering collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with suppliers. With Tesla's cylindrical cell currently on hold, the future of large cylindrical cells is increasingly uncertain. Against the backdrop of intensifying competition within the EV battery industry, SVOLT's Short Blade Fast-Charging technology undoubtedly emerges as synonymous with the next generation of EV battery products. With the accelerated pace of production and vehicle deployment facilitated by Fly Stacking technology, SVOLT's momentum in development is set to further rise.
